Richard N. Watson
Partner

A founding partner of Pulley Watson, Richard Watson concentrates in helping victims of catastrophic injury or death caused by the negligence of others, as well as victims of environmental pollution. Case by case, over the course of many noteworthy trials and settlements, Richard has built a reputation for out-preparing his opponents and finding new ways to effectively try or mediate a case.
His success earned him "The Best Lawyers in
America" distinction in 2004 and each year since, the definitive guide
to legal excellence in the U.S. He has also been selected to be
included in the Best Lawyers in North Carolina in 2009. While the
strategy he employs in each case is often what gains attention, for Richard it's the people he's working for that matter most. He approaches each case as a unique opportunity to right a wrong and improve a family's future circumstances. Simply put, standing up for individual rights is what motivates him.
Protecting others has always come naturally to Richard. Serving as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in the 199th Light Infantry Brigade in Vietnam, he received two Bronze Stars, an Air Medal and a Commendation for Valor in Combat. His military background also prepared him for tough fights in the courtroom – and instilled in him a determination to get the best result possible each and every time.
Richard has served as president of the Southwest Durham Rotary Club, and is a member of the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers (NCATL), the Academy of Catastrophic Injury Attorneys, the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, the Triangle Circle of Advocates and the American Board of Trial Advocates. He earned his undergraduate degree and law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and serves as a frequent speaker for professional CLE programs.
Richard is an ordained Elder in the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Durham. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his son in Durham and his daughter in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He loves to fish and enjoys competing in sprint triathlons.
